You yourselves as followers of Christ know perfectly well that the day of the Lord before destruction is coming just as a thief comes unexpectedly and suddenly in the night. While the world is saying, “Peace and safety has been achieved, all is well and secure now!” Then in an unforeseen moment, destruction will come upon them all suddenly like labor pains on a woman with child, and they will absolutely not escape, for there will be no way for them to escape. However we as believers and all who believe in Christ as Savior and who acknowledge Him to the world as God’s Salvation are not in spiritual darkness, nor held by its deceptive power, so that day will not overtake you by surprise like a thief. For you are all children of the light and of the day; we don’t belong to the spiritual darkness and night of this world. So then let us as true believers not sleep in spiritual darkness as the rest of the world does, but let us keep wide awake in the Holy Spirit, sober minded and self-controlled. 1 Thessalonians 5:2-6
